One could say that the tragic and completely unnecessary death of unarmed 17 year old Trayvon Martin is the shot that was heard around the United States. When the verdict was read you could feel the passionate anger arise as if the teenager had been wrongly hunted down and killed all over again. When the verdict was read it was reminiscent of the multitude of times Black and Brown life has been totally and completely disregarded under the color of authority, rabid racial profiling. And now, murder, under the color of volunteer authority, unfettered profiling at its best. Just as Dr. King moved folk from prayer to their feet a clarion call has been made to move the masses to seek justice for a young man who has been silenced too soon. A wake up call has been made to the sleeping giants called apathy and denial lulled by the small luxuries of life that make everything seem ok.
A wake up call that Stand Your Ground laws voted in to protect hearth and home are now being abused and miss used to trample human rights and kill innocent law abiding citizens. Let’s face the truth. Black and Brown men must distinguish themselves and even then are second guessed, and basically treated as less than honorable men. Eric Holder and the Justice Department have been deluged to conduct a thorough unbiased investigation and pursue the full extent of the law that justice may be properly served. Why was an unarmed 17 year old on the way back from the store with a bag of skittles talking on the phone, hunted down and killed? How many times did the dispatcher tell George Zimmerman to wait? No, he could not wait. He lusted to do just what he did.
A wake up call to Stand Your Ground against the vultures that are out to destroy Black and Brown males at all cost to fill up the new plantations. Protest for peaceful resolution to unjust laws. Black and Brown have fallen prey to systemic predatory networks that destroy their quality of life and ability to raise their families in sound home environments. The sleeping giants have been awakened. Thank you Trayvon Martin. Your dying will not be in vain.
