Changing Our Narrative
The series of events of the past week that resulted in the conviction of Amber Guyger for murder and the subsequent ten year sentence has been most baffling. (See The Dallas Morning News, October 3, 2019) In the midst of it all, the nation was hushed by the actions of the victim’s brother and the presiding judge. Speculations were rampart as the attempt was made to wrestle with the answer to “why?’
I must confess that as a man of God, I struggled to find a handle. I knew that Sunday would bring a host of questions and allegations. All seeking an explanation. My days were passed quietly filled with my normal activities but at night, I was filled with questions and unrest. What does it all mean? It was definitely a challenge. I prayed and listened as I sought an answer. The answer came on the heels of conversations with a female member of the church I attend and a friend with whom I often share light.
The simple answer is that the glory of God might be made manifest. However, we look at the world stage filled with political unrest, those would be gods who scoff at right and righteousness, even the feeling of helplessness among the people of God, it all pointed to the need for God to show up and show out and He did it.
John 3:17 says in essence that the Son of God came not to condemn the world but to save the world. We sing, if I be lifted up, I’ll draw all men unto me. On the world stage this young Christian and an elected official shared the light of God with the world showing forth His glory. They did what Christians are suppose to do.
Time and space do not permit me to give the full explanation of my revelation with subsequent proof but as we do our home work and listen to the voice of God, we must affirm once again that God has showed us the hope of His glory. We need not be afraid–there will be peace among men with whom he is well pleased. He is the King of Glory.
