Reel Urban News Political Candidate Endorsement
By: Michael Reel
It is not breaking news that our city is in crisis. As California’s communities struggle to overcome the twin blows of the COVID-19 pandemic and an imploding economy, Reel Urban News strongly believes Second District Candidate Andre Spicer is uniquely qualified to lead the City of Compton and the Second District in a direction that is inclusive and beneficial to all its residents.
Andre Spicer understands and will act on the needs and concerns of the Second District’s folks. Public safety is a priority of Spicer’s. He understands that parents, families, educators and our kids not only desire but demand a safer environment to live in and prosper.
The lack of police oversight by the community is on stark display in Minneapolis, where former police officer Derek Chauvin faces murder and manslaughter charges in the killing of George Floyd. Andre Spicer has long been an advocate for oversight of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, responsible for patrol and law enforcement services in the City of Compton. In contrast, current Compton Councilman Issac Galvin voted against police oversight of one of the most highly criticized police departments in California.
Spicer is also committed to clearing out the blight that has plagued Hub City for decades. Spicer will work with residential and business developers to rehabilitate and refurbish the boarded-up buildings, burned-out structures and empty lots covered with trash. In conversation with Second District residents, Mr. Spicer shared his concern that these abandoned buildings and lots are breeding grounds for criminal activity. Ask yourself: Why haven’t the current representatives done anything about this?
Compton remains one of the last community melting pots in Southern California. This bedroom community represents a diverse ethnic tapestry. Spicer will celebrate and contribute to the rich contributions to the Hub City from all of her residents. Together, we will rebuild pride in the City of Compton.
The City of Compton has many political, economic and social challenges. For too long, our representatives have turned their backs on us. We believe that the creative and trusted leadership of Andre Spicer will position the City of Compton to meet these 21st century challenges head on.
