The ARCO gas station at the intersection of Main Street and Imperial Highway is in the heart of Watts, a high crime, drug infested community in South Central Los Angeles that not only sells gasoline to their predominantly African American and Hispanic customers, but crack pipes and other drug paraphernalia as well. After observing crack pipes and mini scales prominently displayed for sale in the walk-up service window of the ARCO 105 station, ReelUrbanNews.com contacted and emailed letters to British Petroleum/ARCO and SC Fuels, of Orange, California expressing our concern.

On December 8, 2010, a representative from SC Fuels contacted ReelUrbanNews.com and assured us that all drug paraphernalia had been removed from the walk-up gas station windows and that ARCO 105 gas station was no longer selling crack pipes. Since our phone conversation with SC Fuels, ReelUrbanNews.com has been able to purchase on two separate occasions crack pipes and other drug paraphernalia from the ARCO 105 gas station. The ARCO 105 gas station is directly to the rear of the Samuel Gompers Middle School campus, one of Los Angeles Unified School District’s most academically challenged schools.
