Kyle Rittenhouse Verdict Reaction
By Dave Devereaux and Michael Reel
As shock and awe gripped the nation following the acquittal of accused killer Kyle Rittenhouse in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Reel Urban News reached out to U.S. Senate candidate, Dr. Darrell L. Williams who was on the courthouse grounds in Kenosha when the not guilty verdict was heard around the world.
Williams who is seeking a seat in the U.S. Senate, hoping to provide Democratic leadership for the state of Wisconsin, provided insightful perspective on the shocking not guilty verdict via email.
The sentiments of most people is disbelief that Kyle Rittenhouse was found not guilty on every charge. However, there were a few people present who expressed their pleasure at the verdict….claiming it was self-defense.
However, the unfortunate reality and the “Big elephant” in the room across the nation is, ‘Considering all things in this case being equal, if this was a Black person, there is no way in hell he would have gotten off.’
This is one of the many reasons that I am running for the United States Senate.
While we all must live with the jury’s decision; it is clear that we still have a lot of work to do to achieve equitable and equal justice within our own justice system. As the struggle continues, protests across the state and the country are being planned. It is my wish that all protests are peaceful….followed by meaningful plans of action that force the change needed to improve the quality of life for us all.
