Changing Our Narrative
Looking back on my childhood, my mother and father would buy me toys that I saw as adventures and opportunity. I was interested in how things work behind the exterior shell that catches our eye in the toy store. Before my time, my dad was known as a “jack of all trades.” He could build, rebuild and figure out pretty much anything that was put in front of him. One thing that stood out to me was his love for hobbies. My father would build his own planes, cars and helicopters.
At the age of twenty-two I developed an interest in flying race drones when they first hit the market. One day while racing radio control (RC) cars, a guy started flying his drones. He was an RC plane pilot long before he started flying drones. These drones caught my eye simply because they were different and I wanted to know how they work. After studying aerodynamics, downforce and upward lift on airplanes while trying to master flying RC planes, I immediately switched my focus to drones.
Lately, my focus has turned towards being a better racer. Strapping on a pair of goggles and flying around is one thing, but when you’re in a race with others, it makes the sport more exciting. Aside from racing, I really enjoy being in an open area all alone and burning packs freestyling. Having the freedom to fly is rejuvenating. This is a time to release all my worries and troubles, while recharging my focus and energy to tackle the upcoming days. Flying high above everything at high speed puts a feeling in the body like no other. My goal is to teach others that flying can be for anyone if you put your mind to it.
