Changing Our Narrative
COVID-19’s impact continues to be felt through out Hollywood. But for scribe and indi-filmmaker, Jahmar Hill new opportunities abound.
Just days away before cameras were set to roll on his new film, an emotional crime-drama, “Sisters,” Jahmar was forced to shut down production due to COVID-19.
“I was so excited about starting production. The script is amazing, the cast is amazing and I felt in my blood that this film is going to be a breakthrough film for my actors and myself,” expressed Hill.
According to Hill, in the midst of production COVID-19 chatter started to increase. “Then I started hearing about all the Coronavirus cases – I knew I had to make an executive call for the safety of our cast and crew and cancel production,” Hill stated.
While trapped at home in Hollywood, the young scribe focused on completing scrips, taking in Zoom meetings and more.
“I was able to get two new scripts written – I had pitch meetings and even secured a great entertainment attorney,” stated Hill. Not allowing the grass to grow under his feet, Hill remains in forward motion. “I am now in pre-production for my new drama film, “Run” – It’s a smaller cast than my film Sisters, so I figured, I can get this one done in a shorter time and everyone will be safe and I can now check this off my bucket list.”
During the early days of the COVID-19 shut down Hollywood came to screeching hault. But after getting over the initial shock a great deal of hustle and bustle returned, just digitally. During this period Hill continued making moves.
“I just recently joined the Sony Pictures family. That was something I had been wanting to do for the longest, since moving to California. Sony established a lot of independent filmmakers and movies. So I’m excited to see what this new chapter holds for me”.
Three of the young filmmakers award-winning indi-films are streaming in the digital space.
“My two films “Last Love Lost and Fourth Quarter are available on Amazon Prime, along with Lethal Procedures, a horror film I directed, starring Cocoa Brown and Hassan Johnson. I have two films I directed circulating in film festivals, so I’m waiting to hear how they do and where they will land.”
Because Hill is not a one-trick pony when he’s not making movies, Hill is making music. “Oh yeah – a lot of people don’t know but I was doing music way before I even thought about the movie business,” said Hill. “My new song “Tag Em In”, it’s a dope bop, people can dance to – especially right now with all that’s going on – we need some uptempo music,” exclaimed Hill. “It’s available on all music platforms and I’m looking to release the video sometime at the end of the month.”
