Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU) received a bomb threat at approximately 11:45 PM on Monday, January 31. The threat was made via a phone call to a campus-related phone number stating that a bomb would be detonated on the campus. CDU Campus Security contacted the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department and provided all information.
The Sherriff’s Department completed a thorough check of the entire campus. The search of all facilities and perimeters did not turn up anything unusual. It was determined that the campus was safe and that the bomb threat was not valid. The campus community has been notified about the incident and the campus is remaining open. CDU is currently operating under hybrid-learning protocols due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic with a minimum number of staff and students on campus for the Spring 2022 semester.
The threat follows another hoax bomb threat made earlier in the month toward CDU and coincides with a wave of bomb threats that have been made against Historically Black College and University (HBCU) campuses across the country. Federal, state, and local authorities are continuing their investigation into these threats.
