On the afternoon of Saturday, September 12, 2015, The Blessed Divas Chapter of the Red Hat Society, celebrated its 10th Year Anniversary.
The luncheon was held at The Consolidated Board of Realists, in the historic community of Baldwin Hills, located in the heart of Los Angeles.
A great deal has been said about the Red Hat Society. According the organization’s official website, magazines, newspapers, television, books and movies have all featured the celebrated Society. As a matter of fact, every day, somewhere in the world, the Red Hat Society is mentioned in one or more forms of media.
Laced with a long and rich history, the Red Hat Society was formed on April 25, 1998 by founder, Sue Ellen Cooper, who purchased a red Fedora from a thrift shop in the state of Arizona.
Seven years later, The Blessed Divas Chapter was formed by Julia Robertson, Queen Mom.
“Red Hatters started in 2005 as an idea. We decided that we wanted a Christain chapter because you don’t see to many Christian chapters. After going online to see how to become a Red Hatter, I called some of my church members. The church members talked with someone else online. From there she brought two other ladies. So every time we lose a member by moving on, we get another Christian lady. I feel like God has been in all of this. Through it all, and in it all. And that’s how we want to keep it.”
Initially started as a social organization for women age 50 and over, The Red Hat Society now attracts women in all age demographics through both the “Red Hat” (those over 50) and the “Pink Hat” designations (those under 50). “There are thousands and thousands of chapters. As a matter of fact the Red Hatters are going international now. And it all started with a red hat and a purple dress.”
Sisterhood remains the compelling and special ingredient to the Blessed Divas Chapter according to their Queen Mom. “What’s special about this chapter is the ladies. I must say that I work with a group of Christian ladies. I have two Vice Queens that help me out. They’re my right hand and left hand. And that’s what special about us. We’re just one; we’re sisters. We call each other Sister.”
The afternoon luncheon and program was full of elegance and quality entertainment. Special guest, “The Funny Lady” and the Your Style Dance Club, with Valerie Lee and James Hubbert kept the audience in laughter and awe. The play “At The Bus Stop” featuring, The Shady Old Broads, really stole the show.
Remaining true to their Christian roots, Blessed Diva, Betty Floyd sang “Fear Not My Child” and “His Eye Is On The Sparrow”
