When Is Enough, Enough?

Reel Urban News Op-ed

By Dave Devereaux

We are not moving forward. We are moving back at the speed of light. Trump’s constant mind wrangling has the world in a quandary about America as well as his mental state. It has gotten to the point that nobody looks forward to the news daily because it is inundated by his name and deeds. Even mainstream media has been held in a vice and are making desperate decisions that are irrevocable. He’s running the country like a dictator who threatens anyone or thought that is contrary to what he sees as how the world should look.

He (Trump) blatantly disrespects the judicial system and judges have zero clout. SCOTUS, (Supreme Court of the United States) is laughable. Congress is nonexistent, as they have made no rules to withstand his aggression or threats. In fact, the questions could be asked of whether we even have a Congress. They have done nothing. What happened to the balance of power? It’s as if Trump has a dossier on every member of Congress and SCOTUS and they do not want us to know what’s in their individual file. The likes of this behavior, we have never experienced in modern times. The constant lies are overshadowing all truths that once existed, creating an environment of anger, mistrust and hatred. How much longer will this country accept living like this?

When you have politicians like Marjorie Taylor Green making sense, we are definitely in trouble. As she has been a firebrand of stupidity for the past four years.Yet now even she starts to address the issues with some level of civility. Karoline Leavitt truly could not believe the rhetoric that she lies about daily. Some of her delivery has to live in her head as a comedy skit, as it sounds downright ridiculous representing her boss, Trump. My question is, do any of these people spewing this propaganda realize that their legacies are sealed in disrespect and hate. They have to know that they will not be in those positions forever. And hypothetically speaking, unless they receive blanket pardons from a President that is notoriously unpredictable, they will be sitting ducks for a new President who may wish to indict them for treason. Some of the decisions they have been involved in will undoubtedly be worthy of review and prosecution. People like Stephen Miller are dangerous to the world. Even members of his family have declared that something is wrong with him. The very idea that white people feel like they are losing out in society is ridiculous, considering there are more of them in America than other groups. Much of what we are seeing  is apartheid 2.0.

The real horror is the depletion of farmworkers, hotel employees, domestics and day laborers who make our society move smoothly. When the harvesting of crops leads to mass loss and food supply insecurities, then they will know their efforts have hurt us all. When ICE officers look back on their heinous behavior on behalf of this man, they too will be forced to live knowing their hand in these atrocities taking place. They can say, “I was only doing my job”, but will they be able to sleep at night? Their behavior will be reminiscent of what soldiers have had to go through in the aftermath of wars. PTSD will become a moneymaking profession of the highest caliber. And to think, I cannot say I will feel sorry for them. Anyone who failed to speak up, will live with themselves knowing they messed up badly.

As a society, we cannot afford to conduct ourselves in any manner that does not recognize that all of us need respect and empathy. No one group is above the other. The most recent belief trends toward a stronger hate for the top one percent and a distinct mistrust, dislike of Donald Trump and of the political groups we have sitting in Washington. They have not represented us and I believe the 2026 elections will prove that. At least we hope it will. The over arching question is; When is enough, enough?
